Looking for a safe and peaceful land, where you can give your family the future you want for them while you enjoy a more balanced lifestyle?
New Zealand might be perfect for you.
Belinda Naude, originally from Zimbabwe talks about her move to Wellington from South Africa
People in New Zealand enjoy a great lifestyle.
Working hard and getting ahead is important to us. We’re a well-developed, well connected country with all sorts of opportunities to advance your career. But New Zealanders also believe life is for living.
Workmates and employers alike respect the fact that you have a life outside the office, to pursue your own interests or simply to share in quality time with your family. Why wouldn’t they - when they’ll be out there doing the same, taking advantage of all the opportunities New Zealand offers for relaxation, recreation and exploration.
It’s called work/life balance, and we reckon we’ve got the mix just about spot on.
Every country has a certain amount of natural beauty. New Zealand just happens to have loads of it.
New Zealanders share a strong sense of guardianship (kaitiaki-tanga) for our environment. For example, we maintain robust controls over land development, fishing, water quality and conservation. We’ve dedicated over 30% of our land area to national parks and other protected areas.
So, what can you expect?
Well, if you’ve seen The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Narnia Chronicles or The Piano, you’ll have an idea: soaring mountainscapes, mysterious lakes and rivers, dramatic volcanic plateaus, vast open plains, braided rivers, thermal wonderlands, fiords, native forests, glaciers, miles of farmland and even more miles of glorious coastline with gorgeous sandy beaches…. all that sort of thing.

The quality of New Zealand’s education is another attraction.
We ranked third just behind Finland and Switzerland in The Economist’s 2018 Worldwide Educating for the Future Index of 50 major countries, and we are among the world’s main ‘host nations’ for international students.
At the other end of the scale, all eight New Zealand Universities are in the top 500 of the 2019 QS World University Rankings. All of them offer at least one subject ranked in the world’s top 100.
Along with affordable, quality education, we give children the opportunity to get close to nature and enjoy a diverse range of healthy sport, recreation, and adventure activities.
One of the most important things we can offer families from South Africa is the luxury of feeling safe.
Of course we have crime, but we’re also a remarkably tolerant and easy-going society. In fact, the 2019 Global Peace Index which compares around 160 countries for the risk of personal violence rated us the world’s second safest country, after Iceland. South Africa came in 127th.

Healthcare and public services are also top notch.
