Waipuna Hospice has a high profile in the Bay of Plenty for providing specialist community palliative care.  Our geographical reach covers Waihi Beach to Paengaroa and while our focus is on hospice-at-home, we also have an established inpatient unit and we support a large community team.  These services are funded through DHB contracts, fundraising and income from our charity retail shops.

ABOUT THE JOB

We have a unique opportunity to lead the Waipuna Hospice Medical Team in the delivery of high quality clinical services and patient focused care across the Western Bay of Plenty. The Medical Director will contribute to the strategic development of the clinical services and in partnership with the Director of Clinical Services and team, promote the development of the palliative care planning, clinical education, quality initiatives, career pathway progression, and research functions. Development and retention of people are key objectives of this role.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the Medical Director is also a key player in promoting and upholding the brand integrity of Waipuna Hospice, ensuring Waipuna Hospice continues to be recognised as a professional service provider of high quality, person focused, Palliative Care.

Key accountabilities will be to:

  • Lead and manage the Medical team at Waipuna Hospice, providing coaching, mentoring, supervision and role modelling.
  • Provide comprehensive specialist palliative care for patients, families & whānau referred to Waipuna Hospice, interfacing with relevant health care partners as appropriate
  • Provide quality care, supporting families and patients whilst ensuring that the medical services are provided in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Provide palliative care education for non-specialist palliative care medical staff in the BOP region.

ABOUT YOU

Our successful applicant will have:

  • Vocational Registration with Medical Council of New Zealand including a current Practicing Certificate.
  • Membership of Australia & NZ Society of Palliative Medicine and Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine or FRACP (Pall Med)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within Palliative Care Medicine
  • Qualification to practice as a specialist of Palliative Care
  • Experience in a medical leadership role
  • Proven ability to develop trust and build successful and effective community wide networks
  • Effective communication with strong presentation skills and demonstrates a collaborative working style
  • A visible passion for healthcare and the field of palliative care
