The Role
The Health & Safety Manager plays a critical role in shaping a safe, confident, and high-performing workplace. Supporting the Leadership Team, this role leads the development and implementation of a health, safety, and well-being strategy that supports operational excellence and workforce engagement.Working closely with the National Operations Manager and the People & Capability Manager, the Health & Safety Manager ensures that safety is not just a compliance function, but a core part of how people lead, make decisions, and care for themselves and others. This includes supporting cultural change, lifting field-level confidence and ownership, and integrating safety thinking into leadership, planning, and daily practice.The role leads the design and delivery of practical tools, systems, training, and engagement approaches, including providing expert advice, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards, and leading cultural change across key risk areas — including addressing resistance, normalised risk behaviours, and the unsaid and seen that puts crews at risk. This includes building the confidence and courage of frontline leaders to have challenging but essential safety conversations that support great crews delivering great service — underpinned by a strong, visible commitment to great safety.

To be successful in this role you will need to have proven experience in a senior Health & Safety role preferably in infrastructure, roading, utilities or similar high-risk operational environment, and have an in-depth knowledge of the 2015 legislation. Ideally you will be skilled in designing and implementing health, safety & wellbeing strategies for a multi-site workforce and leading critical risk programmes, systems audits and cultural change initiatives.
