Communications Manager

Marketing, Media & Communications

We're on the lookout for a new Communications Manager to be a vital link between Trade Me and the media. We talk to the media a lot and you'll make sure we are prepared to communicate effectively on everything from the serious to the ridiculous. It could be property trends, the job market, a new product, banned & restricted items or a viral listing. Along the way you'll promote and defend our reputation, and keep Trade Me as a relevant name in the minds of Aotearoa.

Together with the Senior Communications Manager you'll ensure Trade Me earns high quality, positive media coverage across all of our verticals (Marketplace, Jobs, Property and Motors) and be seen as a media expert and trusted advisor in the business.

Here's what you can expect from this role:

* Field media enquiries as the first point of contact, and source responses for reporters

* Deliver comms-related advice & collateral, including releases, Q&A preparation and comprehensive comms plans

* Build and maintain strong media networks

* Media train our spokespeople

* Front media on behalf of Trade Me

* Drive media analysis tools

* Interpret data & insights to bring numbers to life

* Identify opportunities and pitching stories regularly across our verticals

* Find innovative ways of generating positive publicity for Trade Me

* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure we’re aligned and making the most of every business opportunity

What you will bring to our team:

Experience

* 4-6 years experience in a similar communications role

* Tertiary qualification involving writing or communications

* Strong media relations experience and a good grasp on the New Zealand media and ecommerce environment

Competencies

* Initiative - able to identify opportunities, risks and issues and jump on them

* Strong attention to detail

* Confident with analysing and interpreting data

* Excellent writing and copy skills

* Flexibility and adaptability
