Overview of the role: Manage fleet to achieve maximum profit with minimum costs, and manage staff to perform to the highest standards and in line with regulations. Managed 3 x division over a 10 year period.

• Currently, manage 2 x operations nationally with a total of 62 trucks and 74 staff

• Aligned Business Unit into the operating standards of the company by identifying which were underutilized and operating below budget

• Manage a Business Annual Turnover of approx. NZ $9M

• Monitor internal operational costs, fleet utilisation, fleet downtime and resources in order to achieve budgeting results and other financial criteria including PBIT

• Liaise with customs for International loads(Cross Border) and managing cross border loads

• Implement and monitor operational activities to ensure compliance with operational protocols, legal, health, safety and other regulatory requirements

• Optimise routes and fleet utilisation, facilitate achievement of agreed KPIs, and ensure availability of fleet for preventative maintenance

• Ensure optimisation and alignment of resources, systems and processes

• Check accuracy, completeness and authorisation of the summary wage sheets

• Implement performance management process, learning and development, succession process and recruitment processes to ensure continuous improvement

• Handle disciplinary enquiries and grievances and ensure consistent application in line with HR processes

• Conduct monthly Health Checks and facilitate a process to ensure month on month improvements

• Foster a culture of risk awareness to support action plan activities

• Prepare weekly fuel consumption report for fleet, per make, per vehicle, per driver, top 5, bottom 5 with corrective action plans, progress reports on action plans

• Manage and control services, fuel consumption, driver performance, vehicle appearance and ensure that vehicles are equipped and compliant with safety regulations and road laws

• Ensure that all COFs and licenses are valid and that Cross Border Loads are cleared and in line with SARS

• Quote on all Long-haul and Cross Border Rates which are market-related

Senior Transport Controller

Oct 2010 – Nov 2011 

• Management of around 150 employees plus casual staff and approx. 100 4,5,8,10,16 Ton trucks

• Planned and allocated trucks to the daily route before loading to ensure maximum truck utilization
