School Librarian

We are seeking a passionate, motivated, and proactive fully released teacher librarian to run our beautiful, newly refurbished library.

• Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura

• Certificated teacher English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Māori, The arts

• PTSAR

• U8, 920+ students, Decile 1. Full-time, teacher librarian – start asap.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a passionate, motivated, and proactive fully released teacher librarian to run our beautiful, newly refurbished library. You will be a trained teacher experienced in running a school library and/or possess a library qualification or be professionally registered with LIANZA and will take a proactive lead in ensuring the motivating impetus of the last few years is maintained and enhanced, where the library is the heart of our school and a fun, engaging space that continues to be a favourite place for students to be during break times, as well as before and after school.

You will enjoy and appreciate the need to work closely and collaboratively with staff and you will have a real conviction/belief in our kids, getting positively involved in all that is going on: your library role, outside the class with extra-curricular activities or as adults socially; keen and capable of contributing to our full school programmes.

You will be hardworking, honest, conscientious, flexible, able to work unsupervised and be a self-starter with a massive dose of common sense and initiative.

Applicants will have:

  • High levels of cultural responsiveness
  • Highly effective communication and personal skills
  • Strong organisation and self-management skills and aptitudes with excellent time management skills
  • Familiarity with Children’s and Young Adult Literature
  • Proactiveness with collection management
  • Experience creating and delivering library sessions, activities, and events, to support reading engagement and inquiry learning
  • Familiarity overseeing / managing budgets
  • Confidence working with technology
  • Experience with the Accessit Library Management system is preferred, but not essential.
