What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone to join our IT Team in an IT Security Analyst role.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration or engineering, and a passion for information security. They will adopt a pragmatic and balanced approach to improving our security posture and mitigating risk.
In this role you will:
- Apply your system administration / engineering skills to supporting the wider IT Team to deliver a variety of services
- Monitor security systems and respond to security alerts and incidents
- Plan and execute regular preventative initiatives to improve our overall security posture including performing vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and managing Cyber Security Awareness and Training across the RHCNZ Group
- Assist in the configuration, deployment, and management of security systems including analysing data from various systems and applications to assess risk associated with user access and permissions
- Assist in the development and maintenance of security policies and procedures
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of security incidents
- Take a proactive approach to Continuous Improvement.

This role is ideally suited to:
An IT Security Analyst or a Systems Administrator or Engineer with a strong interest information security, with 1-3 years’ experience in a large organisation and ideally a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.. Ideally you will bring a level of experience and skills that will allow you to contribute to the team immediately, but also have scope to grow and develop further into the role
We have outlined below what we are looking for in the way of skills / experience, but we also know that not everyone has all they need for a role on day one. While relevant tertiary qualifications and IT industry certifications would be advantageous, we are looking for skills and attitude that will be a great fit for our existing team, and translate well to the IT Security Analyst role, and we are willing to mentor you and build your experience. What we need from you:
On top of your passion for putting the customer first, you will ideally have / demonstrate:
- A strong foundation (1-3 years of experience in large organisations) in networking and system administration / engineering
- Familiarity with security protocols such as SSL/TLS, IPsec, and SSH
- Familiarity with security tools such as intrusion detection systems, security information and event management systems, and vulnerability scanners
- Understanding of security threats such as malware, phishing, and social engineering
- Experience working with Windows Environments, Modern Networking and Cloud Services such as Azure and Microsoft 365 (and ideally Linux)
- Proactively pursued ongoing education, and either holds or is working towards industry certifications, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including the ability to analyse security data, identify threats, and develop solutions
- An ability to build credibility with business SMEs, Data Owners / Stewards.
