Intermediate Analytics Engineer - Fixed Term

IT

Trade Me is one of New Zealand's most popular websites with over four million members and more than 650,000 Kiwis visiting our site every day.

About the role

We're embarking on the biggest data transformation in Trade Me's history. We're building a new cloud data warehouse, re-architecting our data from source through to reporting, and reinventing our ways of working to match. We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to join us for this journey for a fixed term of 12 months. This role can be based out of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

First up, here's why you'll love life at Trade Me:

* We truly value our people and want you to succeed here, so we offer flexible working, bonuses, access to wellness leave and initiatives, plus a bunch of other good stuff.

* You'll have an instrumental role in establishing our new Analytics Engineering practice, by setting up the foundations, conventions and best practices required to expedite our transformation workflow.

* Here, you'll build invaluable commercial expertise as you draw upon your technical background to promote healthy technical systems that support business outcomes effectively.

* We encourage creative and innovative approaches, and provide plenty of opportunities to put your imagination to the test.

Each day brings fresh challenges, but here's a snapshot of what you can expect:

* You'll work at the intersection of our Data Engineering and Data Analytics teams, leading the adoption of dbt and help to establish best practice and integration within our new data stack.

* Help to design the conceptual, logical and physical models of our new warehouses and datamarts

* Design and develop dbt code to extend the Enterprise Dimensional Model.

* Implement the DataOps philosophy in everything you do.

* Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale database environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.

* Provide data modelling expertise to all Trade Me data teams through code reviews, pairing, and training to help deliver optimal, DRY, and scalable database designs and queries in Snowflake.

So far so good? What we're looking for from you is:

* Good knowledge of dbt, including building up projects from scratch.

* In-depth understanding of the full data lifecycle - how data is created, ingested, stored, and used.

* 3+ years experience as an Analytics Engineer or related discipline - Data Engineering, BI Developer, Insights Analyst.

* Are proficient in writing analytical SQL and understand the difference between SQL that works, and performant SQL.

* Have experience using the command line and git.

* Have a solid understanding of data warehouses, business intelligence tools, data activation tools, and the Modern Data Stack.

* Experience with Data Catalogue/Management tools like Atlan/Alation.

We know some candidates can be reluctant to apply for roles if they feel they don't 'tick all the boxes'. If you're excited about this opportunity, we'd still really like to hear from you.

At Trade Me, we're about connecting Kiwis to create the life they want. Whether it's the big things like finding a home, a job, a car or growing their business, or the smaller things, like finding that right bedside table or parting ways with some old stuff. At Trade Me our vision is to be the place where Kiwi's look first.

Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We truly value diversity and embrace a flexible workplace where people are encouraged to achieve their potential.
