Community Nurses

Healthcare

A holistic and autonomous nursing job working in the community. A range of job opportunities in Palliative Care, Community and District Nursing.

About the organization

This nationwide organization is a leading provider of home-based healthcare and supports the values of Registered Nurses. They help people to remain active, safe, and independent in their own homes and community.

About the Job

Based on the therapeutic model of care, your goal as a community nurse is to work holistically alongside the people you support and their families, encouraging the highest level of independence possible. This includes:

  • Working autonomously in the community
  • Based out of an office in Christchurch
  • Undertaking assessments
  • Developing, overseeing, and regularly reviewing support plans
  • Working closely with RN, Care Coordinator, and Support Worker colleagues

Varied roles are available as follows:

  • Palliative Nurse - Manage a select small caseload Monday to Friday. Symptom and disease progression management, working closely with the family. No on-call.
  • District Nurse -  Lots of wound care. 7-day roster, mostly 8 - 4.30 pm. Some 12 - 8.30 shifts and on-call components.
  • Community Nurse - Manage evolving caseload, undertake a social and clinical assessment, mentor, verify and supervise support workers.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with a current APC and preferably experienced in long-term conditions, aged residential care, or medical nursing. In addition:

  • A wonderful communicator – able to develop trust and relationships easily – with clients, family members, key referrer organizations, and colleagues
  • You’ll enjoy autonomy and working independently but naturally, want to contribute to the team and work closely with others.
  • Adaptable and flexible. Whilst the days and hours are set, you’ll find that no two days are the same.
  • Well organized with excellent time management skills, yet able to change priorities and adapt the schedule with ease.
  • Technically savvy - you'll be working online and offline remotely with a laptop and phone while on the go.
  • Full Driver’s Licence
  • We will consider Graduates and Enrolled Nurses for District Nursing positions.

What’s in it for you?

  • Stable hours
  • Hourly rate plus use of a vehicle for work use (including getting to and from work – a real benefit if you live rurally)

These rates have just increased due to collective employment negotiations.

  • Professional development opportunities
  • Structured and comprehensive training and induction
