The Migration Process

Investor Migration

The objective of the Investor Category is to attract skilled business people with capital to invest in New Zealand.

Applicants under the Investor Category must submit an Expression of Interest which meets the prerequisites for health, character, Englisch language, age, investment funds and business experience.

If Immigration New Zealand is satisfied that all conditions have been met, an Invitation to Apply for Residence under the Investor Category will be issued.

Information provided in the Expression of Interest and any further evidence, information and submissions - including information concerning ability or potential to successfully settle in or contribute to New Zealand - will form the base for determination of an application for residence under the Investor Category.

Principal applicants under the Investor Category will be assessed against

  • personal requirements: age (maximum age is 54 years), health, character and English language
  • investment funds ( NZ$2 million, ownership of funds earned or legally acquired, unencumbered)
  • business experience (minimum of 5 years of either owning a lawful business enterprise or management experience in a lawful business enterprise)
  • settlement and contribution requirements

The assessment may result in an Approval in Principle or a decline of the residence application.

Once the Approval in Principal has been granted, the applicant will be required to transfer the nominated investment funds to New Zealand.

The investment funds will be held by the Government for a period of five years, however the applicant may request to transfer up to half of the funds after an initial period of two years.
