Professions in high demand -
Skill Shortages in New Zealand
Immigration New Zealand has acknowledged that certain skills are in particularly high demand in New Zealand and is making it easier for migrants with those occupations to apply for a resident or work visa.
The Immediate
Skill Shortage List contains professions which are currently in high demand in New Zealand
and shows qualifications and/or experience required for work visas
as well as the recommended standard for work visa applicants with an offer
of employment.

The Long Term Skill Shortage List contains professions which are constantly in very high demand in New Zealand and shows qualifications and/or experience required for resident visas and bonus points under the Skilled Migrant Category.

Due to high demand of skills for the rebuild of the Christchurch/Canterbury region, a new list, the Canterbury Skill Shortage List, has been released in November 2012, containing construction, engineering, telecommunications and trades professions.

All three lists are updated regularly by Immigration New Zealand to reflect the current labourmarket situation in New Zealand.
