Skill Shortages in New Zealand
Immigration New Zealand has acknowledged that certain skills are in particularly high demand in New Zealand and is making it easier for migrants with those occupations to apply for a resident or work visa.
The Immediate
Skill Shortages List contains professions which are currently in high demand in New Zealand
and shows qualifications and/or experience required for work permits
as well as the recommended standard for work permit applicants with an offer
of employment.
The Long Term Skill Shortages List contains professions which are constantly in very high demand in New Zealand and shows qualifications and/or experience required for residence permits and bonus points under the Skilled Migrant Category.
Both lists are being updated regularly by Immigration New Zealand to reflect the current labourmarket situation in New Zealand.
Due to high demand in skills for the rebuild of the Christchurch/Canterbury region, a new list, the Canterbury Skill Shortages List, has been released, containing construction, engineering, telecommunications and trades professions.
