Skill Shortages in New Zealand

Good qualifications and work experience are vital for anybody wishing to apply under the Skilled Migrant Category as New Zealand is aiming to attract skilled migrants who are going to contribute to New Zealand´s growth.

In addition to this Immigration New Zealand has acknowledged that certain skills are in particularly high demand.

These qualifications are listed in the Immediate Skill Shortages List and the Long Term Skill Shortages List.

The Immediate Skill Shortages List contains professions which are currently in high demand in New Zealand and shows qualifications and/or experience required for work permits as well as the recommended standard for work permit applicants with an offer of employment.

The Long Term Skill Shortages List contains professions which are constantly in very high demand in New Zealand and shows qualifications and/or experience required for residence permits and bonus points under the Skilled Migrant Category.

Both lists are being updated regularly by Immigration New Zealand to reflect the current labourmarket situation in New Zealand.
